Hi Everyone, Thank you for visiting Smith's School of English Honmachi Site! My name is Alessandro Stanciu, please call me Alex. It's much shorter. Some of you may be wondering where I am from because my name is different. Well, my mother is Italian, from Salerno, on the Amalfi Coast, and my father is Romanian, from a small town about an hour away from Bucharest, which is the capitol. I was born in Romania, moved to Italy, and then to the United States when I was five years old. My family now lives in Chicago. I have always been interested in travel and different languages and cultures. I can speak Romanian, Italian, English, some Spanish, and Japanese. I like studying Japanese and trying to use the new words I learn. I think Japanese has been the most challenging language for me to learn so far. It is a daily exercise for me. I know what it feels like to study a foreign language, and I firmly believe that you must make yourself practice speaking if you really want to improve. Don't worry about making mistakes; I make them every day, and I learn from them and improve; especially when people take the time to correct me. I know they are trying to help me, and I do the same for my students. It feels great when you can communicate successfully with someone in another language! A new language can open your eyes to a much bigger world. I enjoy living in Japan very much. I have lived and taught English in Japan for several years, both at public schools and privately. Prior to returning to Japan I worked as an Account Manager in corporate sales in the U.S. I also hold a real estate license in Illinois, and have been running a small business in Chicago for over 10 years. Several years ago I joined Smith's School of English because I firmly agree with Smith's School of English approach to teaching English in Japan. I believe that our model is the best because it truly creates a value-for-value relationship between the teacher and the student. Over the past several years, I have been working with people from many different fields. Some of my students are business owners, dentists, doctors, university professors, high-level managers, office workers, and also junior high school, high school, and university students. There are many more. Everyone is interesting and unique. Each person has their own_dream and I feel fortunate to be able to help them realize their dreams through the study of English. If you are truly interested in improving your English, don't be shy and definitely don't put off starting to study. The best time to start studying is now; the sooner you begin, the sooner you will realize your goal! Back in school we all studied and perhaps struggled with fractions in math class. Do you remember common denominators? I do. Once you found the common denominator, you could solve the problem, right? If you really think about it, simply put English is the common denominator between people of various backgrounds, cultures, and languages. English enables us to communicate with and understand people from all over the world. With English as our common denominator, results are achieved!
